shveynayaSewing manufactory

Since old times, the monasteries were famous for their handwork. The sewing is one of the traditional monastic occupations. It’s also known that The Virgin Mary was a very skilled handworker.

Except the preparation of church garments, the monastic manufactory includes army uniforms and army textile accessories and parade dresses for ladies. The monasteries produced embroideries, lacework items, sewed jewels, golden and silver garments, weaver pieces. Monastic manufactories worked as well for foreign demands.

During the First World War, the sisters of the Nunnery of Saint Nicholas of Solba sewed clothes for the army needs.

In our monastery from the first days there was sewing manufactory. At the present, we are producing clothes and monastic uniforms for sisters, clothes for the teachers  from the orphanage, costumes for children shows and so on.

You can obtain items from our sewing manufactory from   the monastic shops: skirts, aprons, wrappers, cooking clothes, decorative bags and rucksacks, belts and bookmarks for religious books.

The offer is not very varied for the moment, but we plan to open a big sewing manufactory, in order to be able to satisfy big demands. Except sewing chuch garments, we plan to perfect women clothes production. This articles are very actual at the moment, as the modern models are in fact not very suited for the dressing requirements demanded  by God’s commandments.

We plan the opening of golden sewing manufactory in our monastery as well.

Finally, we  are in great need of working volunteers: sewers, cutters, modelers and so on. We ‘d be very glad if sisters possessing this kind of vocations. We had many interesting and varied tasks to be accomplished in  the daily obedience which permit to value in God the proper talents and gifts.
